School’s Back, Sports Are Starting, & Thoughts of Year-End

August brings a mixture of feelings to this household. A hint of sadness that summer is over, when we just started to get out to enjoy it. A touch of panic that it’s time to wrap up that list of outdoor projects we’re not quite done with, but close. A bit of anticipation for those cooler days of sweatshirt weather, fall sports, and my personal favorite - HARVEST! 👩‍🌾

Endulge me, because fall is my absolute favorite, it’s the #1 reason we’re planning our wedding for next October (mark down 10/25/2025), but harvest is my jam! It’s my pleasure to run the combine and love every minute of it. Whether it’s the daily maintenance, listening in on Husker Saturdays, or just chilling to the radio & watching the wildlife - this is my recharge time! It’s not quite here yet, but I’m pushing hard over the next 30 days to be able to enjoy the month we spend on it.

Get ready for things to start changing! 🍂

Pre-Harvest Push…that’s what we’re going to call the season we’re in. The time when folks settle back into the school-year routine and we wrap up all the things before harvest hits. Once that happens it’s a slippery slope right on into year-end planning.

This is a superb time to touch back in with your accountant and tax team to be prepping for year-end.

Do you want to discuss any of the following:

  • The current state of your financials for the year,

  • Anything you’ve really enjoyed from us so far in 2024, and

  • How we can help you be even more successful in 2025.

Third quarter is the perfect time to reflect on the current year-to-date and dream of how the next year could be even better. By communicating with us now we can adequately plan any updates to your services and also ensure the capacity to properly serve all clients in 2025.👩‍💻

~ Why do it?

Q. What do you enjoy about accounting?

A. It’s two-fold. First, it’s that everything checks out, down to the penny, if you just keep looking. It’s like doing your own little test every month and then getting to see if you did it correctly, satisfaction right?

Then, it’s working with the people. Getting to really know and understand your businesses and being able to help you succeed. Being able to be the bridge between not having the time or understanding to handle your books and the tax team that doesn’t always explain things in their filing frenzy.

Q. What are some of the things you need to learn for this career?

A. The best accountants will have a college degree including some level of accounting. Whether that’s a 2 or 4-year accounting degree, or a mixture of business, finance, and economics, you’ve got a good start there.

From there, you should be involved in some peer groups and subscribe to some industry newsletters to stay updated on the latest rules, regulations, and other changes.

Finally, if you niche down into specific industries to serve, you’ll want to dive a bit deeper into tools that can really push your clients to excel in their field. You can also find further groups that also focus on your niches to really gain excellent peer collaboration for when that client just throws you a curve-ball!
