Sweet Summertime!

I’m not sure about you, but for me, this summer is flying by! While the summertime accounting lull allows me to spend more time on my agricultural activities, it still doesn’t seem like I’ve had any time for much fun in the sun. I have however, embarked on a couple painting projects, both in the cool basement & out on the old corncrib doors.

Our farming operation consists of alfalfa, corn, & soybean production, with some grass & alfalfa/grass hay also mixed in. Since we’ve been blessed with timely rains this year our haying season has been exhaustive & our spraying seasons have been extended. We are currently waiting to wrap up post spraying on soybeans & start 2nd cutting alfalfa.

Here’s hoping for some end of summer breaks! 😎

In the accounting world right now we are in that sweet spot of client oblivion! For most, tax season is behind them & year-end is too far away to think about, so while they are on vacation, we are in normal routine mode & enjoying the quieter days.

It’s not all fun & games though, as this is the time of year that we like to check in with your tax accountant to make sure:

  • The prior year taxes are completed,

  • The books get tied out to your last fiscal year-end, and

  • We touch base on the current state of operations.

These are all crucial parts of the annual accounting process & are a phenomenal way to build collaboration between you, your tax accountant, & us. 👩‍💻

~ How it’s Going

Q. What technology do you use?

A. We utilize a simple tech stack to enable higher software proficiencies for us & greater depth of support when working with our clients.

Our favorites include:

  • QuickBooks Online

  • Gusto

  • Melio

  • Keeper

  • 1Password

Q. How do you work in a virtual setting?

A. We like to be flexible, mobile, & leave minimal impact. By utilizing the tools above, we can work whenever & wherever we need to, without the mountains of paper!

Yes, there are things like payroll, that have to be processed on a particular schedule, but we limit those services & group them together to create processing efficiency.

Aside from a couple client deadlines, the regular monthly close services are mostly open to be completed within the 30 days following any month end.

Therefore, whether you work best in the morning, afternoon, or evening, you can set your schedule to maximize your optimal work-life situation. I’ve been known to trade a Saturday for a random Tuesday if that helps me accomplish all my tasks!
